Alive and Kickin'

I really haven’t got used to this blogging lark.

I have spent the past few weeks reminding myself that I really ought to add a blog entry. I mean it’s not as though us folks at Heroes HQ have nothing of interest to report. We have the Heroes recording happening, we’ve been awarded a grant and we believe that the fate of the Clyde Street Centre will be determined this week – so you would have thought I’d have had oodles to write.

Nope I can only put it down to two things. The first is that I have been far too busy and the second, and probably more likely reason, is that as a blogger I’m pants.

Still with fingers actually hitting keyboard, here is a quick round up of the recent happenings.

I guess the big one is that it would appear that the fate of the Clyde Street Centre is about to be revealed. We have been led to believe that a report will be presented to the Council’s Helensburgh and Lomond Area Committee on 20th January – which at the time of writing is rather less than 24 hours away. You may know that 3 bids were received (2 + the Heroes bid) and that they were all being assessed by the Council’s project team. Well it would appear that the time has come for the final decision to be made with Item 6 of the agenda clearly stating that an update will be given and discussed.

One word of warning though: if you are reading this and fancy turning up to the meeting in person to greet the contents of the report with either a hearty ‘Hampden Roar’ of approval or a deafening Coliseum sized cacophony of boos and ‘thumbs down’– then I can save you a journey. The report will be dealt with behind closed doors. Hopefully we will all know the outcome in the next few days.

The second event which is rapidly fast approaching is the recording of Heroes by the Helensburgh Heroes All Stars (that’s you folks). The backing track was laid down yesterday by the Team. And a big ‘thank you’ to Kirsten, Andy, Jim, Gill, Kenny, Alan & Robert for giving up a entire Sunday for the cause. I have yet to hear the fruits of their endeavours but I’m led to believe we’re smokin’! I would have loved to have been there in person but was on parental taxi duty. The ‘fare’ in this instance was to take a few of the younger players from Helensburgh Rugby Club down to Ardrossan for a couple of lunch time matches. Well we managed to get down there, get the boys changed, fired up and we saw an incredible 7 minutes of rugby before the games were abandoned due to the horizontal rain, sleet and ice. To say the weather was cold enough to freeze the **** of a brass monkey was an understatement. Usually, young boys are pretty averse to taking a shower after a game (or at anytime come to think of it) but on this occasion you would have been trampled in the rush to get under the hot water. So keen where they to get warm that several kids didn’t even bother to divest themselves of their kit. How about that for eco friendly kids? Use the same water to wash themselves and their clothing at the same time.

But the main event is this Saturday. The stage is well and truly set for an amazing recording session and hopefully a great deal of fun. And much of it has been brought to fruition by a very generous grant from the Scottish Community Foundation. If you want to participate, and all are welcome, please come down to the Victoria Halls for 10.00am.

Well that’s it. A Happy New Year to you all (that’s for 2010 by the way, in case I forget to blog again).
