Morven Christie
Morven was born on the 1st January 1979 in Helensburgh but only resided in the town for a few months, She spent her childhood in Scotland, splitting her time between Glasgow and Aviemore. She travelled and worked in a series of jobs including as a ski instructor, before choosing to study acting at the Central St Martin’s Drama Centre in London, graduating in 2003.
Since leaving drama school, Morven has been in demand on stage and screen. Her film debut was in ‘House of 9’ with Dennis Hopper and Susie Amy, the story of nine strangers, with no apparent connection between them, being abducted, drugged, kidnapped and sealed in a house together. She also appeared in ‘The Flying Scotsman’ with Johnny Lee Miller, which told the story of inspirational Ayrshire cyclist Graham Obree who broke the world one-hour record in 1993 on a bike he designed. Morven has rapidly gained a reputation as a leading lady, as evidenced by her playing Jane Bennett in ITV1’s critically-acclaimed Lost in Austen and Rose in Oliver Twist for the BBC, as well as a supporting role in The Young Victoria alongside Emily Blunt.
Among her stage work are leading roles in Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About nothing for the RSC. Morven completed in 2009, the Bridge Project, a 10-month long tour of The Cherry Orchard (playing Anya) and A Winter’s Tale (playing Perdita), directed by oscar-winner Sam Mendes and co-starring Ethan Hawke, Simon Russell Beale and Rebecca Hall.
Paul Taylor in The Independent, reviewing Morven's portrayl of Juliet, said "Morven Christie's dark-maned slip of a Juliet projects humour, intelligence, warmth and the sense of a girl who knows her own mind. The character's progress into a deeper self-awareness is beautifully charted and there's a piercing pathos in those scenes where, having surpassed her parents in emotional maturity, she attempts to reason them out of their insensitive folly.
Morven has appeared in several films, most notably: The Young Victoria (2008), The Flying Scotsman (2006), Dot.Kill (2005) and House of 9 (2005. She has also several notable TV credits to her name, having appeared in: Monday Monday (2009), Lost in Austen (2008) Oliver Twist (2007), The Family Man (2006, TV movie) Quite Ugly One Morning (2004, TV movie).
Morven has been tipped to rise to the very top and was recently photographed for Vanity Fair as one of the most talented stage actresses around today. Morven is currently in a relationship with fellow Actor Rupert Evans and lives in North London.
