I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
Everybody searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to.
“The greatest love of all” Lyrics © Michael Masser and Linda Creed
Cheesy as it might be, the first verse of this famous George Benson/Whitney Houston song really does sum up what Helensburgh Heroes must do if it is to flourish.
We have to capture the heart and minds of the area's children.
The area has more families with children/young people than the national average and yet, with the notable exception of our sports and leisure clubs, we have a woeful lack of facilities to stimulate and entertain them. Where do you go in the evenings as a 14 year old?
We want to design and deliver arts, leisure and recreational facilities that embrace the needs of the area’s youth, but to do this we need their input. We need to capture their energy, their skills and their ideas. We cannot second guess what they want from the area – we need them to tell us and we need them to help us deliver.
If you involved in one of the area's excellent Schools either as a teacher, a member of the Parents Association or a student councillor and want to find out how the Helensburgh Heroes can work with you and the pupils/students – and vice versa – then please contact us now.
We want our children to be the next HEROES of HELENSBURGH.
