Sinclair Street Reservoirs

Sinclair Street Reservoirs

The reservoirs at the top of Sinclair Street are no longer operational.

Scottish Water plc has declared that it intends formally to dispose of these assets within the next 12 – 18 months subject to the requirements of the Reservoirs Act. The area currently provides a haven for wildlife, a recreation place for the community and a first class fishing facility for the Helensburgh Angling Club.

Helensburgh Heroes is suggesting that the reservoirs, an area of 30+ acres, are purchased to remain a community facility, and are enhanced to increase their obvious value as recreational and educational assets.

Suggested enhancements include:

  • The establishment of an eco field study centre
  • Bike Hire
  • Boating & Canoeing
  • A Beach with designated safe swimming zone
  • Ornithology Facilities such as hides
  • Range of Guides/Booklets to flora and fauna
  • A Ramblers Rest
  • Integration with the Open Access Forum excellent pathways and walks project

Owing reservoirs brings a high degree of risk and maintenance overhead, and this project could only be countenanced once a full engineering survey and insurance assessment had been undertaken. But that stated this should not prevent Helensburgh Heroes from pursuing this acquisition.
